There’s a belief I used to have:
If I consume enough self-help content, find the right books, the right videos, and the right ideas, then everything will be great.
Life will finally be the way I want it.
- I’ll run up a bankroll.
- I’ll be confident with all my decisions.
- I’ll find happiness in daily life, regardless of how poker is going.
The problem with that belief?
It didn’t work like that.
It was actually the opposite.
The more content I consumed about how things should be, the more bogged down I felt. Poker knowledge didn’t translate into more money. Mental game tricks didn’t translate into confident decisions. And the losses got more and more painful, while the wins just felt like relief from the suffering.
(still hero calling the nit, just be happy I got it in good didn’t magically make me happy, still ripping the bong after losing half a buy-in….)
I thought I was doing everything right, but things were getting worse.
The one thing that changed all of that?
I learned to make being present my highest priority all the time.
The result?
- I was able to consistently apply new concepts
- I made confident in-game decisions
- I didn’t drag my poker results into life
My graph and happiness grew.
That stuck feeling was replaced with excitement for the game again.
And, my mind stopped racing about poker when I was away from the tables.
Life was finally going in the direction that I had always envisioned.
If any of this resonates with you, feel free to book an intro call. I’ve got a few openings at the moment.
