I’ve had a lot of fun this month
I’ve been hanging around in the mindset sections of some poker discords of the major training sites
Something I’ve learned pretty quickly
Most people don’t want to make real changes
They just want to either complain and let out steam, or find a slightly more intense version of what they’re doing now
For most of the random people I’ve talked to publicly?
That’s something like
- Refining their routines
- New warmup and cooldown MP3s
- Better sleep
- The newest supplements
- Telling each other to be happy and not get upset over bad beats
I actually saw a guy list out his 7 different routines for the day (one of which was, in all caps, CALM DOWN ROUTINE)
What’s wild to me is that a few years ago, I would have thought they were right. Hell, I might have even hopped in the conversation with them to share any of my newest supplements at the time.
But it all seems pretty silly now, and apparently the way I engage with those people is starting to reflect that.
One guy went through all the different ways of losing
He ranked which ones seem like the worst (ahead, behind, to fish, etc.)
I’m guessing he thought he was getting to the “root” of his problem, and that he was trying to break down the right logic to then reverse it.
My advice to him?
“It sounds like when you feel things, it’s a problem, and you play worse”
Bunch of typing ensued from him
But there’s not much else I can say
I’m not in the business of solving problems for free (my current clients would be pretty pissed at all the money they spent so far)
In hindsight, he knew he was having all kinds of emotions. But hindsight doesn’t get the money back. You can either learn to accept the emotions as they happen, or only see them in hindsight.
If you want to constantly be playing your A-game? (both in poker and life)
You’ll have to learn that whole acceptance thing
Up to you
Most people aren’t even willing to try
The funny thing is it’s not even difficult, you just have to first be willing to try for something completely different than what you’re doing now
I can’t make it any simpler than that though
If you’re ready to do it another way, you can come find me here:
