How to solve your biggest problem

Something I see a lot –

Someone will be unhappy with a certain part of their life.

Some self-sabotage behavior will keep playing out, causing them a lot of frustration, and they want to change it.

I’ll try to make the next part sound as dumb as possible.

When you notice you’re doing the thing, you have to do something different instead.

I know, groundbreaking.

But the simple things tend to be the most frustrating when we keep doing them.

If you keep eating bad food, then just stop eating bad food. If you keep smoking cigarettes, then just stop smoking them. If you keep calling the nits, just start folding instead.

Clearly it isn’t that simple, otherwise everyone would be doing just fine all the time.

But still –

Something has to break the pattern.

So what is it?

Well, there’s probably one thing that you’re not doing in those moments.

Accepting how you feel.

Something happened, you started feeling a bunch of stuff, you’re no longer having fun or enjoying yourself, and you’re probably stuck in your head about it. We all tend to use different words for that last part. Stuck in your head, on autopilot, spaced out, feeling blurry, disconnected, zombie mode, full tilt, or whatever other words resonate.

Shit is going wrong.

But when one thing changes in the current pattern, you can set yourself on a new course.

Creating a moment where you accept how you feel right now, can lead to another moment.

It might take a little intentional effort at first in that moment, but it’s one simple thing that can change.

If you can create one moment, you can create another.

And another.

And now the old pattern has been interrupted, and this new course can continue on.

What happens from there?

You’ll have to find out for yourself.

But when you’re accepting of how you feel, you tend to be a lot more effective at moving towards things you actually want, rather than just going away from what you don’t want (aka, not wanting to feel the way you do right now.)

Live like that for a while and I think you’ll be very happy with the results.

Master that skill, and you’ll be able to leave all your old self-sabotage behaviors behind.
