Why didn’t I think of that??

Slowly over the years, I realized:

People don’t actually want a big change in how they do things.

They just want a slightly improved version of what they’re already doing.

For mindset coaching?

Thinking and talking.

When someone comes in hot about a bad beat or a busted tournament run, you’ll find a wall of text around all the spinning thoughts they’re having right now. Thoughts about how it keeps happening, how they don’t know if they can win anymore, and how they don’t deserve good stuff.

The advice they receive back?

Always some dressed up version of ‘injecting logic’. Just be happy you had the experience. Tell yourself that this is what poker is all about. Don’t get overconfident after that big win.

It’s always the same, just a little different.

WIthout any other option available, the mind will keep trying to come up with solutions, no matter how dumb they seem in hindsight.

The other option?

Learning to feel what’s going on in the body.

It’s the one job the mind can’t do on its own.

You can’t think the feeling away. The only choice is to feel it or not.

If you don’t?

Then the mind will never stop.

If you do?

  • You can shake off the bad beats
  • You won’t suffer endlessly after busting a final table
  • You’ll enjoy every upswing without ripping it down shortly after, or taking huge breaks
