I used to be constantly overwhelmed
There’s usually bunch of ideas floating around in my head
Finding the best one can be like a needle in a haystack
Something my friend John Craft taught me a couple years ago that I still use today – when you notice you’re stuck, say out loud ‘One Thing’, and do whatever comes to mind first. Doesn’t matter the order. When it comes to things like picking up my room, chores, and errands – it works like a charm. I’m unstuck and moving again.
There’s one caveat I’ve noticed though.
When it comes to the bigger things? Things we really want?
There are a whole lot of unknowns and emotions around it.
That can be enough for the ‘One Thing’ you came up with to be very ineffective at moving you in the direction you truly want.
We all know the feeling we get when that one exciting thought surfaces
We stay very busy.
Things happen. (I’d eat and smoke a lot)
But that thought in the back of our mind keeps finding its way to the back again
For me, when it comes to building a business, creating content, and getting some inevitable haters?
- Lots of thoughts
- Lots of emotions
- Lots of chances to turn away and stay busy doing something else
But when thoughts and emotions are not a problem, no matter how uncomfortable they may seem in the moment?
Then every little ‘One Thing’ is going to move you in the direction you actually want
That thought in the back doesn’t have to stay in the back
I’d bet a lot of money that writing emails to less than 50 subscribers is not be the optimal use of my time when it comes to the ‘right’ thing to do for building this business
But it IS ‘One Thing’
It’s another piece that’s getting put in place, and I’m having a great time doing it

In poker?
Little ideas come up all the time mid-hand
So often those thoughts are met with a little excitement, then sent to the back as quick as they came
Hands will pile up in your head
All the things you ‘could’ have done, but didn’t
And you’ll always be left wondering what your win-rate would be if you actually trusted your gut every time
Sounds like hell (and yes I’ve been there)
If you’re tired of this and want to learn how to trust your gut, and follow through on all your ideas, hit me up here for a free consult call, I’d love to chat
